Renishaw's latest company news, case stories and announcements, covering R&D and manufacturing operations and Renishaw's extensive network of support offices worldwide.
New touch probes and probe software that increase machine tool automation, improve process control and allow advanced on-machine part verification, will be a major feature of Renishaw’s stand at EMO Milan (hall 7 stand G06). For visitors sourcing off-line measurement products, there will also be the opportunity to discuss Renishaw’s new retrofit service for co-ordinate measuring machines (CMMs), including MODUS™ the company’s first metrology software, and a new high-speed solution for valve seat and guide measurement.
There will also be a range of new motion control products, including a true absolute optical encoder for rotary and linear applications, and unique track-mounted linear encoder scale system.
Being launched at IDS Cologne, hall 3.2, stand G18, Renishaw’s incise™ dental milling system will enable dental laboratories to manufacture zirconia frameworks in-house. Styled and sized to match the incise™ dental scanning machine (pictured right), it uses a highly accurate Renishaw contact probe for job set-up and monitoring of the cutting tool.
Together with Renishaw’s central milling option, dental laboratories now have access to a dental CAD/CAM system that offers both in-lab and out sourced manufacturing options.
White paper: 'Survival of the fittest - the process control imperative'
In tough times, manufacturers focus on reducing their operating costs, but may not be able to afford to spend their way out by buying more productive machinery. With that pathway closed, what are the opportunities for radically reducing costs without replacing existing machines?
Where can we:
- reduce manning levels?
- reduce unproductive time such as setting or waiting for
operators?
- reduce scrap, rework and concessions?
- reduce inspection costs?

Magnetic encoder modules offer non-contact alternative to potentiometers
Potentiometers provide low cost, analogue position feedback with simple integration. However, they are subject to degradation of performance, or even failure, due to wear and contamination. A dirty or worn potentiometer can provide noisy, unreliable operation, requiring periodic replacement.

New FASTRACK™ linear encoder scale system
FASTRACK linear encoder scale system combines high accuracy, tape scale convenience and unrivalled ruggedness
Designed for applications that demand high accuracy and easily removable scale, the FASTRACK scale system consists of two miniature, yet rugged, guide rails. These securely retain Renishaw’s new low-profile scales (8 x 0.2 mm cross-section) and allow them to freely expand at their own thermal expansion coefficient with almost zero hysteresis (sub-micron on a centre-clamped 2 metre axis over the entire operating temperature range, for example). If damaged, the scale can be pulled out of the guide rails and quickly replaced, even where access is limited, thus reducing machine downtime.

Improved measurement performance with new motorised heads for co-ordinate measuring machines
Following a series of design enhancements, Renishaw’s industry-standard family of PH10 motorised indexing heads for co-ordinate measuring machines (CMMs) now have a 20% improvement in repeatability and increased long-term stability.
Combined with an optional extended 2-year warranty, the new PH10 heads offer CMM users a new standard of indexing head performance, providing reliable precision in even the most demanding measurement applications.
All three variants of the new PH10 heads are now supplied with a revised repeatability specification, down from 0.5µm (2σ) to just 0.4µm (2σ) (specified at a distance of 62 mm), giving users improved positioning at the stylus tip.

White paper: "At the sharp end – a guide to CMM stylus selection"
When deciding the best way to measure a component on a co-ordinate measuring machine (CMM), many choices are made by default because they have been carefully thought through many times before. The accuracy specification of the CMM, the best type of sensor to use (touch or scanning) and the optimum probing method are often taken for granted and not questioned. However, this foundation for good metrology can be undermined by an inappropriate or ill-considered choice of stylus, with the result that measurement accuracy can be compromised.

White paper: 'Unlock the hidden potential of your CMMs'
Measurement is vital to any manufacturing business, providing essential information to control processes and verify products. But older co-ordinate measuring machines (CMMs) can become bottlenecks if they fail to keep pace with changing measurement needs.
Advances in sensor, metrology software and controller technology now offer the opportunity to transform existing CMMs, providing greater accuracy, faster measurement, more automation and new capabilities, whilst taking full advantage of CAD-driven programming.
In the current climate, upgrading also makes good economic and ecological sense.

TURBOCAM 'high fives' revolutionary five-axis CMM measurement technology
Leader in five-axis turbomachinery production quickly adopts newfive-axis Renishaw inspection system, gains faster throughput, greater CMM utilization, and programming reductions from days to hours
Constantly changing surface geometries, pin-wheeling shapes and tight, intricate features make turbomachinery components — impellers, blades and blisks — some of industry's most complex and exacting shapes. TURBOCAM International achieved leadership in this specialized field by mastery of five-axis machining and five-axis programming software. However, efficient inspection of ever increasing numbers of complex parts was frustrated by slow, tedious, stop-and-go measurement inspection on a legacy 3+2 axis coordinate measuring machine (CMM).
